Chartered Trading Standards Institute is a professional membership association formed in 1881. It represents trading standards professionals working in the UK and overseas in local authorities, the business and consumer sectors and in central government. It exists to:
• promote and protect the success of a modern vibrant economy, and
• to safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of citizens by enhancing the professionalism of its members.
The CTSI’s job is to make markets work well for consumers. Markets work well when businesses are in open, fair and vigorous competition with each other for the consumer’s custom. Their job is to make sure that consumers have as much choice as possible across all the different sectors of the marketplace. When consumers have choice they have genuine and enduring power. The Chartered Trading Standards Institute plays a leading role in promoting and protecting consumer interests throughout the UK, while ensuring that businesses are fair and competitive. The CTSI are involved in raising business standards and promoting consumer confidence and any customer can be assured that in choosing a CTSI approved business they will be receiving both value for money and the highest customer service and peace of mind.
